Ricky Ponting Looked After Me Like A Child: Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya is an all-round player who plays for Indian Cricket Team. In an interview with famous analyst and commentator Harsha Bhogle he talked about his journey, relations with the players and mentors. He shared his moments with Ricky Ponting after Mumbai Indians bought him in a cash-rich league i.e IPL.

In an informal chat with Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz, Hardik Panya disclosed how Ricky Ponting has changed his mindset towards cricket. A young talent from Baroda played his first IPL in 2015 for Mumbai Indies where he was guided by Ricky Ponting. He treated him like a child and helped him to make his game better.

Hardik’s beginning for the Mumbai Indians

Hardik was picked by Mumbai Indians after his great inning in a domestic cricket match. In that match, he scored 82 runs and smashed the bowlers all over the park. The franchise owners Neeta Ambani and Aakash Ambani along with John Wright saw the talent and straightaway bought him in the IPL auctions.

With the best coaching staff in the Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya had a great learning experience which he saw in his game. Fortunately, he trained under the great mentors like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, John Wright which was a dream come true feeling for him.

Ricky Ponting used to sit with him and speak about the game and other stuff.

“Ricky Ponting was someone who looked after me the best. He looked after me like a child and I thought him as my father figure there. Ricky Ponting taught me so many things, he taught me situations, he taught me mindset, how strong you could be. As a new boy in 2015, During IPL matches I used to sit next to the hoardings. Ricky used to sit down with me and speak about the game. These conversations helped me learn quickly.”Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya said in friendly interaction with Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz.

Later in his chat, he also opened up his relationship with Kieron Pollard, West Indies All-rounder. He is a senior player for Mumbai Indies. According to Hardik, he is more like a brother to him. Their families are in touch with each other, they talked on the call. He makes sure that he connects with him at least once a month.

Hardik mentioned that he tries to learn from personalities with different abilities to improve his game and he finds his game similar to Kieron Pollard and because of this he considers him as his role model.

Hardik also spoke about his bond with Jasprit Bumrah who like him belongs to Gujarat. Their journey started together and both of them shared their success together in the International arena.
